Cordillera Blanca

Our stay in the Cordillera Blanca was our first proper taste of altitude. And boy did we underestimate the effect it has on one's body!

We did manage to get in some stunning walks before headaches and nausea forced us to lower more normal altitude. We were staying at a beautiful lodge called the Way Inn which has a serious hippie contingent. We received many explainations about Pachamam (Mother Earth) and felt a little judged because we really enjoy eating meat. But apart from that we had fantastic stay and really enjoyed ourselves.

The area has more than 30 6000m plus peaks and the views are simply breathtaking.

We were lucky to meet an Australian couple who also enjoyed eating meat! At least we weren't quite alone! We shared a fantastic hike up to Laguna Churup, which was advertised as a 4 hour round trip - Mark and Fred were ready to beat the map writer after eventually finishing the hike a round 8 hours after departing.

We'd both love to head back one day and explore the area when we're more prepared for the altitude.
