Glacier Country

Glacier Country. Small towns, big sky country with rural charm and friendly nature. Bon's Mom and Dad joined us In El Calafate. It was a treat having faces from home with us.

The Glaciers themselves: What can we say except that it was like nothing we have ever experienced in our lives before. We'll let the photos do the explaining...

Fin del Mundo

Ushuaia is the world´s most southernly city. Set on the southern coast of Tierra del Fuego, right on the Beagle Channel, it´s hemmed in by snow capped mountains which are the southern point of the Andes mountains. A mountain range that we had now more or less followed from northern Colombia all the way down the spine of the continent.

Ushuaians have their heads on right, no plastic bags are sold in the shops and the inhabitants are proud of how clean their city is - from the mountain water in the taps to the clean streets and clearest air your lungs could wish for.

We disappearred into the Tierra del Fuego National Park for a few days of camping. fishing and exploring. It took us awhile to get used to the late 22:30 sunset and the very early 3:30 sunrise. The long days gave us plenty of time to enjoy the fauna and flora of the island.

Once we'd finished on the southern side of the islands, it was time to pick up a rental and go exploring - this was mainly for Fred to find the legendary sea run brown trout of the island.

Tierra del Fuego is truly stunning country - big sky, vast landscapes, snowcapped peaks. The long rivers dotted with beaver dams wind their way through Patagonian Beech forests and steppe plains on their way to cold Southern Atlantic.
